About Me

Hi, my name is Victor Alves and you are probably asking yourself all these common questions when you first come across a blog. Who is this guy? Where does he come from? Why did he starting blogging? Why now? Don’t worry I am here to clear things up for you and I will start by telling you where I come from and who I am.

I was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the biggest city in South America and of course the best city in the world to live in (at least in my eyes). For those of you that don’t believe in what I said previously here are some quick facts. Sao Paulo the city has a population of approximately 20 million, the state of has about 40 million, and it is considered the 11th biggest city in the world in terms of population. Still don’t believe me Google it!

Like all the Brazilian kids, I always had and still have a passion for soccer but when I was introduced to tennis at the age of 8 I knew soccer had found some competition. I figured that my passion for tennis was even greater than the one for soccer. I was a very lucky kid, since even though my dad almost played professional soccer and should’ve forced me to play soccer as well, he was really supportive when I choose to play tennis. My dream as a kid was to try to build a professional career from tennis and become n. 1 in world. At the age of 17 though, I started playing some professional tournaments and figured that a life of a professional athlete wasn’t only glamour and fame like you see on TV. At the age of 19, I had to make the biggest decision in my life between risking everything and going pro or to come to the United States to study. The good thing about coming to U.S. was that I could still keep my dream of playing tennis and competing at a high level while I studying.

So, I did what I had to do sent my video to coaches, start studying for the SAT and Toefel, applying for universities, and packed my bags to come to the U.S. I received several offers but choose to come to The University of Texas – Pan American in Edinburg, TX. Even though the city was a lot smaller in terms of size and population, it has a similar climate and I wouldn't freeze to death like in Wisconsin (one of my other offers). Another influential factor in me coming to UTPA was that it was a NCAA Division 1 tennis program and they offered me a good scholarship.

Coming to Texas alone was and still is one of the greatest experience of my life, since I had to learn how to do everything by myself. I remember the first time I went to wash my clothes, I didn't know what to do, how to turn it on, and it was mess. Back to the point here, during my college career I developed another passion of mine, marketing! The fact that marketing allows to be so creative and gives me freedom to market anything I want in so many different ways, just amused me. So, I decide to become a marketing major with certification in service and customer relation.

As of right now, I am currently a sales representative of Advanced Data Processing (ADP) and a student-athlete alumni at University of Texas Pan American majored in marketing. You are probably still asking me why I am writing a blog. The reason behind this is to focus in what I believe can enrich people's life being it quotes, marketing, investing, business and leadership tips.

That’s all folks!!
Hope this helped you get to know me better… Tchau!!
